Catching U.P. on our Michigan Tour.
Okay, so I am the first to admit that consistently clever and interesting blogging is not easy. You set out with the best intentions to great photos, document every minute, and share it with the world. Next thing you know it is a month later, you have forgotten half the places you went, and your pictures look like you took them when you were drunk!
That being said – here is the abbreviated post of the Upper Peninsula leg of our Michigan circle tour [PLEASE tell me you noticed the clever inclusion of U.P. in this post title].
So, we crossed the Mackinac Bridge – first time towing the Airstream. It was a quiet 5 miles. Sherri distracted herself by playing with the new GoPro camera and pretending not to feel the winding pushing as closer to the edge. Visions of the “Yugo-Incident” kept playing in my head. It was a beautiful day, freighters were passing under us, the sun was shining, and we waved to our friends at Little Luxuries on Mackinac Island in the distance. We made it across without incident.
Late Summer / Early Fall in the U.P. is fantastic, the black fly and mosquito swarms have long subsided and the snow has not begun to fall yet. Reliving some of Sherri’s childhood memories, we spend Labor Day weekend in Grand Marais at the Woodland Park Campground. Steps away from Lake Superior and a short bike ride from downtown Grand Marais. If you have never been – it is worth the drive. The Lake Superior Brewing Company, The Pickle Barrel House, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore…every Michigander should go at least once.
So the rest of the UP trip was a whirlwind – we had to get to Ironwood to visit our good friends at Stormy Kromer, Ishpeming to see the Revisions Design Studio, and somewhere along the way need a pastie! [amazingly, we never had one – but did have the some of the best pizza ever at Congress Pizza in Ishpeming. The rest of trip – we just made up as we went along! Stay tuned to future posts for some of our favorite spots.
